Medistar’s vision behind the creation of Bay Area Regional was to fulfill the healthcare needs of families within the flourishing and dynamic Bay Area Houston community. In July 2014, the hospital unveiled its doors, with an initial emphasis placed on the development of five out of its nine floors, each designed to offer a range of essential services.
This initial configuration comprised an array of facilities, including a total of 104 beds, covering a substantial area of 232,000 square feet. The setup featured three dedicated Medical/Surgical Floors, an 11-bed Full-Service Emergency Department, and specialized units for Pediatric Observation in the Emergency Department. Among its notable features were five Operating Rooms, a significant highlight being the presence of the sole Hybrid Operating Room within the primary service vicinity.
Notably, the hospital boasted cutting-edge medical equipment, such as Low-Radiation Imaging Technology, further enhancing its diagnostic capabilities. Additionally, the facility showcased advancements in healthcare with its incorporation of 3D Mammography and fully equipped Endoscopy Procedure Rooms. The provision of two Cardiac Catheterization Labs underscored its commitment to comprehensive cardiac care.
The hospital’s infrastructure also catered to pre-operative and post-anesthetic care, boasting well-equipped Pre-Op and PACU Holding Areas. Further demonstrating its dedication to providing a holistic range of services, the establishment featured both an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and a specialized Neonatal ICU, catering to critical care needs.
Continuing its trajectory of growth, the hospital undertook an ambitious vertical expansion project during 2016 and 2017, leading to an extended footprint encompassing 373,000 square feet. This expansion was met with acclaim, receiving recognition from Engineering News-Record. Following this expansion phase, the total bed capacity was elevated to accommodate 200 beds, facilitating an increased patient intake.
Embracing the spirit of innovation, Bay Area Regional introduced novel technologies and diversified service offerings as part of its expansion. A pivotal addition was the establishment of a dedicated Women’s Floor, equipped to manage critical aspects of women’s health, including Labor and Delivery. The floor also featured a cutting-edge Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), integrating state-of-the-art medical advancements.
In summary, Medistar’s strategic vision materialized through Bay Area Regional, a healthcare institution that emerged to cater to the healthcare necessities of the thriving Bay Area Houston community. With an initial configuration tailored to comprehensive care, the hospital’s subsequent expansion marked its commitment to advancing medical capabilities while catering to the evolving healthcare requirements of the region.
